I decided not to pay for them to mount it and instead went to Michael's yesterday to look at getting some matt board and a frame. As I was heading to the back of the store where the custom framing stuff was to see how I could purchase some matt board, my roommate Josh said, "hey, I think that's the guy from around the horn?" I say to myself, what would Tony be doing out here? So I'm like, well, I would know, so I walk a few aisle over and sure enough Woody Paige is standing there looking at frames. Having interned back there at Atlantic Video, I figured that I should probably say something, so I waited a few minutes and then introduced myself and said that if he needed a fill-in PA at his insert studio at the Denver Post to just give me a call. I also told him that I know the Producer and Director well, so he was going to say something to them today I think. Anyways, I thought that was kind of cool. Woody is not the most favored sports commentator out there, but his fame is pretty well known and believe it or not, it was a little tough to say something to him and I'm normally able to talk to many higher ups.

The funny thing about seeing him at the store was that I was wearing a hoody when I was out and it wasn't until 1am when I went to bed and took off the hoody to see that I was wearing my around the horn shirt underneath of it. It's a weird coincidence. Here's my story titled,

"Drivers License - What's the Point?"
(Hell at the Colorado Drivers License Office)

40 mins after the office is open, there is already approximatley 50 people in line. The seating is maxed out, with the line out the door and with people waiting in their cars on a day where the high is scheduled to be in the 90's yet again. The woman handing out numbers quickly asks what you're in the office for and hands you a number to be called. You take the number and then head to the nearest ATM to take out cash, because the signs inside informed you that we here at the state of Colorado's Drivers License Office ( a division of the deptartment of revenue) are 10 years behind the rest of the world and will not credit cards. Upon returning to the office, you to plant yourself in a chair which will become your home for the next 90 days. After receiving no preliminary paperwork to fill out upon your initial arrival in the office, you begin to wonder how this state is going to be different in orchestrating this process. As you sit and people watch and learn of the process, you realize that every single teenager that walks into the place is expedited and called by name, to which makes their wait time little to nothing and yours gradually longer. The state by doing this clearly is suggesting that we would prefer to serve those who will have more accidents and DUIs in the next year first, than those who actually do obtain that 5 years of experience thqt help to keep the Colorado accidents down as Progressive Auto Insurance informs you on every couple sets of commercials. Number 06 your ticket informs you as an hour later the order is just arriving at 75. As you watch the minimal state employees punch away and approve another illegal immigrant into the country known for its freedom, you begin to boil as the clock dwindles closer to your call time for work at your new job. You know that once the large hand reaches the 20, that you must say farewell to the place whether or not you have been served and hope that there's a pretty lady close by for you to hand your number to, to make their wait time minimal and their day better. You finally look over to the peer next to you and voice your opinion about the time that you've been around and they agree that you've been here for a while and they understand why you would be disgruntled. Still waiting as the clock arrives as the 10 minute count down, where the current number is now just 11 digits away from launch time. With the signs declaring that your bank money is no good here, there is a sign underneath the "silence your cell phone" warning, declaring that we also do not accept any bills larger than $20, a notice that seems to make no sense when each person is paying the $21 fee, scratch that, $23... After the over two hours of wait, your number is finally called and you approach the bench. After being asked if any stranger has given you any bags to carry onto the plane, the optomistrist behind the counter asks if you wear contact lenses, where it clearly states the information on the data strip of the piece of plastic that legally aloud you to arrive at this destination today. After seeing the flashing lights on the left side, then the right (or was it the other way around?) You are granted the approval to have a horizontal picture card that really just serves as a purpose to buy alcohol and other miscalaneous drugs, however, you must now wait another 90 (7-10) days until your lifeline is sent to you in the mail, hoping that whatever 19 year old intern that was working data entry that day gets all of your information correct.

I should have just kept my VA license now that I went through that procees. I'm really afraid now to go to the DMV to register my car!

Greek Festival

So I went with my brother's friend the other day and worked on his moving crew. I chatted a little bit with the lady that we were moving and she told me that there was a greek festival going on here this weekend and that was it, i was going; i didn't have anything else to do? Anyways, this is the second one that i've been to. I went to one in Little Rock last year, but I was working the weekend that they were having the one in DC a month ago. Anyways, I went with my buddy shawn to the Greek festival here in the Denver metro area. It was actually a decent size festival, but clearly my main reason for going was for the food, however, they also had some appealing entertainment going on (dancing, singing, etc.) They had a raffle and the coolest prize was the free airfare for a trip to greece! The raffle isn't until tomorrow and you don't even need to be there in order to win! They'll call you! Man, that would be so sweet if I could win, because I really want to go back sometime this fall if I can work it out. I ended up seeing one guy from one of the churches that I have visited the past two sundays and that was neat! anyways, i just thought that i'd give my events blog a little lovin.

Minutes to Midnight

Linkin Park's New Album is released today! I slept half of the day and woke up some where around noon. I'm done with the movie now, so it's time to catch up on sleep. When I woke up, I read my e-mail only to find the news of this Virginia Tech shooting sent from my mom. My mom told me later that when she first sent the article that it said 5 were dead, but it was clearly 22 when I read it a few hours later and the story had been updated. I know a couple people who attend VT and was worried about several of them, but fortunately that facebook proved they were all safe and sound. Radford, which is another large state university about 15 minutes from VT, is where I have some former members of my old church living and working. One is a police officer there and he said that he was called over, but everything was died down by the time that he arrived. My parents current church supports the campus minister down there in Blacksburg and I talked with the youth minister and so far everyone down there was all right. As stated a little on the news, Virginia Tech is like the notre dame for this area. If you grow up here or went there, you are forever loyal to this school and when something like this happens, it is a blow to pretty much the whole region. Well, most of you have seen the news and read stuff online by now, so I am not going to give a recap, instead, I want to outline the most recent story - Cho Seung-Hui.

It came out a few hours ago now that Cho Seung-Hui is the name and person suspected to be responsible for these shootings. Cho Seung-Hui is from centreville, virginia which is just on the other side of fairfax county from me (history wise, it's not too far from manasas). He attended a public high school in chantilly, virginia and I have known several people who came from that same area and it's a little unsettling. He graduated from high school the same year that I did, 2003 and it appear that he was also the same year in undergrad at VT. The northern virginia area is highly populated with asians and so it is apparent that this guy was highly depressed and unable to overcome his mind. The profile that I've read so far about Cho Seung-Hui reminds me of a Criminal Minds Episode that I saw a few weeks ago on CBS. The character was this kid who, weird-so prepare, would fantasize(sp?) about having sex with prostitutes, but instead of doing anything with them, he would pull out a knife and kill them. In the episode, the kid knew that he was crazy and something was going on and was trying his best to prevent himself from hurting others by going and taking himself to police, but continued to be skitzo. Evidence has so far shown that this man at virginia tech was having issues and had apparently been referred to couseling. Because this guy was what police would classify as a minority, although he evidently did not grow up in a minoritized area, it does keep those old-fashioned people on their racist and stereotypical kicks and really, not every single asian in the world knows kung fu or can kill with their bare hands. Most asians or asian-decent that I've interacted with my whole life have been some of the nicest people, which could very well outline why this guy was quiet. Nice guys out in the world today, especially at a state school, have a much harder time interacting, I would suspect, and relating to the rest of this world. I am curious to see the final profile of this kid in the coming days and weeks.

One thing that hits not only the state of virginia, but this northern area of virginia is that back in 2002, the sniper shootings occured and it is clear by the evidence that this Cho Seung-Hui guy was around and living in the area. When another shooting would happen, schools around the DC region would go on lock down and students were stuck inside while local, state, and federal law enforcement were out looking for muhammad(sp?). I assume that police may check into any relation to this as well or this kid praising this back a few years ago. So many unaswered questions and will remain so for the current time.

I feel bad for many of the local police and the president of VT down there. I really hope that no one has to lose their job over this, but in today's society, everyone wants to blame someone and so someone else, who was not in any way at fault, will suffer because of this. Why are dorms not locked during the day? People go exercising during the day and dont want to have to take their emergency purse with them while doing so. It's not hard to piggy back ontop of someone to get inside of a dorm. Multiple reasons as to why the first shooting was not enough to close down the entire region of probably over 30,000+ people. That's rediculous. People would complain about that as well. It's a lose-lose situation.

I read a little of the list of those who died. It looks like several professors were killed. VT-one of the top engineering schools in the country has lost some of those professionals. This is very sad. I'm sure that the rest of the list will be posted in the coming days, after those family members are notified, but who knows.

This is apparently a very deadly area to live in....Washington DC area. You've got people in Iraq being killed because of this federal government. You have snipers a few years back and now you can this guy. Fortunately that the local dc district has cut down on crime in the past 10 years, but it still happens occasionally, but not really mass executions like the national news worthy ones. What are we going to do? Why are there so many psychos living here? How can we find these people and make sure that they know people do love them? Sure, we can try to change the world, go off to other places, but this northeastern region just seems to be getting more and more worse? What can we do? I don't know. I've grown up here. It was fun and a blast to see all of the new cars that are coming out and to see some of the futuristic ones as well. I believe that it was ford who was introducing a water powered car that gets like 255miles to the tank, which isn't too bad for water, but the sad part is the price tag; it's a good $200,000 - YIKES!! It wasn't really that appealing either, but yeah it was still cool. I have a few pictures that I will try and put up for you all of some of the cool cars at a later point and time...
